Cloud Web Hosting Explanation

What is cloud hosting indeed? The word 'cloud' appears to be quite modish in today's computing, World Wide Web and web hosting jargon. In spite of that, only a select few really know what cloud hosting is. Maybe it is a good idea to inform yourself about cloud hosting services. To make a quite long tale concise, we will firstly let you in on what cloud hosting is not.

1. Cloud Hosting is Not Confined to a Remote Data Storage Solely.

1. Delivering a remote disk storage service, which comprises one single data storage appliance for all users, does not turn any particular web hosting supplier into an authentic cloud hosting distributor.

The cPanel web hosting firms name the ability to deliver remote file storage solutions a cloud hosting solution. Up until now there is nothing bad about the cloud designation, but... we are discussing hosting services, not remote file storage solutions for personal or business purposes. There's always one "but", isn't there? It's not sufficient to call a shared hosting solution, driven by a one-server hosting environment, precisely like cPanel, a "cloud hosting" service. This is so because the remaining pieces of the entire web hosting platform must be functioning in precisely the same way - this does not apply solely to the remote disk storage. The other services involved in the entire web hosting procedure also must be remote, isolated and "clouded". And that's extremely hard. A very meager number of web hosting vendors can truly do it.

2. It Encompasses Domain Names, E-mailboxes, Databases, FTPs, Web Hosting Control Panels, etc.

Cloud hosting is not limited to a remote data storage solely. We are discussing a hosting solution, serving plenty of domain names, web portals, email mailboxes, etc., aren't we?

To dub a hosting service a "cloud hosting" one demands a lot more than distributing just remote file storage mounts (or maybe physical servers). The mail server(s) must be devoted solely to the electronic mail related services. Doing nothing different than these particular procedures. There might be only one or maybe a whole bunch of email servers, based on the overall server load generated. To have a true cloud hosting service, the remote database servers should be performing as one, irrespective of their real number. Carrying out nothing different. The same goes for the users' web hosting CPs, the File Transfer Protocol, etc.

3. There are Cloud Domain Name Servers (DNSs) as well.

The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of a true cloud hosting company will support multiple server farm facility locations on multiple continents.

Here's an instance of a DNS of a true cloud hosting firm:

dns1.nekapa.org

dns2.nekapa.org

If such a DNS is furnished by your hosting plans provider, it's not a sure thing that there is a cloud hosting platform in use, but you can absolutely be sure when you spot a DNS like the one underneath:

dns658.hostgator.com

dns659.hostgator.com

that there isn't any cloud hosting platform. This kind of DNS just shows that the hosting platform in use is one-server based. Perhaps it's cPanel. cPanel is a single-server hosting solution and maintains a 98+ percent market share. In cPanel's case, one single physical machine copes with all hosting services (web, mail, DNS, databases, FTP, web hosting Control Panel(s), files, etc.).

Remote File Storage - The Distorted Interpretation of Cloud Hosting.

So, a cloud hosting solution is not restricted simply to a remote data storage solution, as a lot of web hosting corporations wish it was. Unfortunately for them, if that was the case, most of the file web hosting service providers would have been classified as cloud web hosting ones a long time ago! They are not classified as such, as they merely deliver file web hosting solutions, not cloud hosting solutions. The file web hosting platform looks indeed very simple, in comparison with the web hosting platform. The remote data storage platform is not a cloud hosting platform. It cannot be, as it's only one simple fraction of the entire cloud hosting platform. There's a lot more to be discovered in the cloud web hosting platform: the web hosting Control Panel cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the DNS cloud, the FTP cloud, the electronic mail cloud and... in the upcoming future, possibly a couple of brand new clouds we presently are not aware of will come up unexpectedly.
